Resource Title The Nation’s Report Card, Mathematics
Summary

This website of the U.S. Department of Education provides access to information and reports of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) for Mathematics. Numerous detailed reports regarding the administration and findings of the 2007 NAEP in mathematics for grades 4 and 8 are available. The website also provides on-line access to NAEP results for each state. Sample assessment questions, examples of student responses, and results for groups of students (e.g., gender, race/ethnicity, and socio-economic status) are available. Highlights of the national results show that fourth- and eighth-graders reached a higher level of performance in 2007 in comparison to all earlier assessment years. The average score for fourth-graders increased 27 points over the past 17 years, and the score for eighth-graders increased 19 points. Students at all levels of performance made gains, resulting in higher percentages of students at or above the basic and proficient achievement levels. From this website, users can also access documents and information related to NAEP for ten other subjects.
