Resource Title PTA National Standards for Family-School Partnerships
Summary

This guide is intended to empower parents, educators, community members, and students to work together to implement programs, practices, and policies that encourage partnerships between families, schools, and communities to promote student success. Information is organized around six standards:

  • Welcoming all families into the school community: Families are active participants, feel welcomed, valued, and connected to each other, to staff, and to what students are learning and doing
  • Communicating effectively: Regular, two-way, meaningful communication
  • Supporting student success: Families and staff continuously collaborate to support learning and healthy development at home and school
  • Speaking up for every child: Families are empowered to be advocates for children to ensure that students are treated fairly and have access to learning opportunities
  • Sharing power: Families and staff are equal partners in decisions that affect children and families and together inform, influence, and create policies, practices, and programs
  • Collaborating with community: Families and staff collaborate with community members to connect students, families and staff to expanded learning opportunities, community services, and civic participation

The guide provides expert insights, local success stories, action steps, rubrics, and a sample action plan. Resources for implementation, and a template for planning are also available.
