Resource Title California’s Common Core Standards Parent Handbook
Summary

On August 2, 2010, the State Board of Education (SBE) adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), with some additions unique to California. The CCSS address the content areas of English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. These kindergarten through grade 12 standards provide a progression of knowledge and skills that prepare students to graduate from high school and be ready for college and careers. The Standards are research-based and internationally benchmarked and maintain the rigor of California’s existing standards. Among other tools, the Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) has prepared a handbook for use with parents and community members to help orient them to the CCSS. The handbook organizes information about the standards for each grade level or subject course from kindergarten through 8th grade. Each grade level provides a content overview and a summary of skills developed at that level. Additional information about grades 9-12 will be provided at a later date. The handbook is also available in Spanish at Parent Handbook Spanish Translation)
